Renewed wish list !!

Okay, okay , sorry for the long absence and hmm some of you must be thinking , ( she’s soooo fickle-minded, can’t even make up her mind what she wants !!! ) , well I’m renewing my wish-list because I read what I wrote earlier, and its doesn’t seem as I need those things. So now what I’m going to wish for is needed or even if its wanted it will be of good use to me :-)

First up, is a new dictionary, The Oxford’s english dictiionary ( 7th edition). I think thats the latest. well coz the dictionary I have at home is so old, that most of the words that I need to refer to are not in it :-(

Second, is a new watch …heehee, well my old one is dying on me. I have to keep on changing batteries when I like just changed it. Hmm what I like ?? Ripcurl waterproof watch, can’t remember the code, but its  nice turqoise colour with small floral motifs on the straps….hahaha

Third, is a new backpack ….Err the one I have is going to give way soon…though I still really really like it :-) haha

Fourth , is well new bed spreads, I guess this needs no explanation ..haha

Well I decided thats all I want to wish for . But whatever comes my way, I’ll still be thankful and ever greatful, as some others dont even have 10 % of what I have. Oh yeah, and if you remember in my previous post for wish list, I had been promised a camera from my friend. I didn’t think of take it seriously, but I was blessed with it. Thanks !! Well It’ll be opened to be borrowed by any of you that need it okay, just make sure is in good hands :-)

Btw dear readers, i don’t think I’ll have a party this year for my birthday, erm coz I don’t have any idea what to do, and I guess I’m getting too old for parties :-)

Troubled by …..

As my eyes schemed across the page of the newspaper, the headlines of an article caught my eye. It read, ” Slow learners need help ” . Quickly but carefully, my eyes ran down each an every line of the article, going one step at a time, word for word. By the time I reached the second paragraph, floods or tears were streaming down my face. Why ?

Because the article spoke of kids with learning disabilities that are not discovered, and left that way, they drop-out of school, leave home and mix with the wrong people and end up in juvenile centres. One in every three juvenile prisoners have some sort of learning disabilities. They are often not discovered to have learning disabilities in school, because teachers or fellow studens label them as  ” stupid ” or ” useless ” . What have we all become ? A society only accepting people who are so called ” smart ‘ in our books ? Who are we to judge who is useful or not ? Who are we to label another human being as stupid ? Are we the cause of all this ?

I would dare say indirectly yes. Because we continue to live out lives ignorantly of the need out there . We strife so much for power, fame, money, and we forget about others. We forget that if we are the only ones standing on to of the hill with all the power, fame, and money , but with no one with us , we will be all alone. No one to enjoy it with . My heart bled when I read the article, as so many times students are pushed away just because they DON’T PERFORM AS WELL , AS FAST OR AS EFFICIENT , as the others.

I have worked with kids with special needs while deciding where to go after my SPM, and you know what ? They are just as capable of anything you and me are capable of. All they need is time, love, and some encouragement to tell and encourage themselves that they are useful, and can make it in life. Having a learning disability doesn’t make one any less then any other human being. It is just how the world labels people. To me , I don’t see a child with learning disabilties as a problematic child, but a child that just has some obstacles to overcome, and they will be able to do well in the future, given a chance.

Malaysia needs social workers and help to identify kids with learning disabilities, so that help can be provided. Why can’t we all stop thinking of making money ? Why can’t we stop thinking how much we should charge per session to see a patient ? Why can’t we offer our services for free ? Even once a week free service for those who can’t afford ? I think if we just offer our hand to those in need, we will make a difference, and this kids can find themselves a way to live life right. Can we learn to accept that everyone is different, and love them, and help them through instead of pushing them away and labelling them . Labelling has to stop !

Thank you for the article, and for having it published. We need he awareness here in M’sia . People need to know, and know where to get help. Lets stop being ignorant and be a help right just where we are, before branching out to help more.
